Willow is Willow, in sickness and in health.Įverything changes, though, after a series of events forces Charlotte and her husband to confront the most serious what-ifs of all. She's smart as a whip, on her way to being as pretty as her mother, kind, brave, and for a five-year-old an unexpectedly deep source of wisdom. What if their child had been born healthy? But it's all worth it because Willow is, well, funny as it seems, perfect. Instead, their lives are made up of sleepless nights, mounting bills, the pitying stares of "luckier" parents, and maybe worst of all, the what-ifs. Charlotte and Sean O'Keefe would have asked for a healthy baby, too, if they'd been given the choice. It was one of those books I couldn't put down, cause I wanted to know what happened next.Every expectant parent will tell you that they don't want a perfect baby, just a healthy one. Other than that, I have to say that I really enjoyed reading it.

I think it was just added to have yet another point of view, from someone otherwise not a part of either family. How did everyone feel about Marin's little subplot? I found it very interesting, but somewhat unnecessary to the whole story. She probably didn't know that cutting, for Amelia, was a very calculated thing. She was six years old, and she saw her sister doing something she probably couldn't quite understand. I don't think the actual thought of killing herself ever crossed her mind. Was anyone else as disturbed as I was by Willow's "suicide attempt"? I don't think that's really what she was doing. Did Amelia's condition in the book satisfy everyone, or would you want the eating disorder to be the main focus of her book? I really thought she did a good job with portraying what Amelia was suffering through. I know some people here have said they would want Jodi to write about eating disorders. I guess, in a way, everything (winning the lawsuit, the family slowly getting back together) was too good to be true. I thought the family all went through a lot and everyone seemed to learn their lesson. Did you guys feel it was fair of Willow to die that way? I felt it wasn't. It seemed it was added as though the author couldn't think of another way to shock us. It was sad, but it was, essentially, very meaningful to the whole story.īut Willow's death seemed to come out of nowhere. In My Sister's Keeper, I understand the message behind the death of Anna. I just couldn't figure out why Willow had to die in the end.

I just finished reading Handle with Care, and I wanted to share some of my thoughts on it.
